TRAVELING THE WORLD AND THRU TIME
When we travel, we stay at Bed & Breakfasts. This time, my mom found a great one called the Brava House in Austin's Castle Hill neighborhood. Check it outtt!
Our breakfasts were super southwestern and healthy each day. Black beans, sprouts, paprika, and the oh-so-trendy avocado…..I was very inspired to recreate them at home. I really might do that. I might even create a food portion of this blog in which I talk about quick & easy, HEALTHY meals you can fix for yourself! If we make healthy eating fun, we’ll be more inspired to eat in a way that leaves us feeling good about ourselves. Stay tuned, loyal viewers....
Thy Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library was our first stop. I LEARNED SO MUCH. President Johnson is responsible for so much of the legislation that ensures American safety and prosperity today. I bought myself a pencil that has all of the bills he passed on it, so I can remember. Seriously, Lyndon B Johnson was THE MAN!!! He passed civil rights acts, created protections for our wilderness areas and wildlife, created Medicare and Medicaid, and even passed legislation to regulate motor vehicle safety (ie: seatbelts!!). I used to resent my parents for dragging me into all these boooooorrrrriiiinnnggg museums, but now, I've decided that I'm going to grow up and learn something. Also, I should've brought my pencil with the legislation written on it into the APUSH exam last year. Ha.Ha.Ha.
His wife, Lady Bird Johnson, was super fashionable.
They also had a replica of her office, which had some sweet retro furniture.
I LOVED the way she styled this red dress with her head scarf! Also, I LOVED how much she respected the environment. I admired the way she dedicated her time and influence as First Lady to increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
Lunch was a taco place called Torchy's. (which my mom kept calling Scorchy's....) The second taco of the day was just as good as the first....
Then we went antique shopping and window shopping in the South Congress district.
This was one of the many fun and beautiful murals we saw, so why not complement it with a strange pose.
My dad has an obsession with bakeries. This one was pretty excellent.
