Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is buy a new dress for three dollars at the thrift store on half off day. That literally never fails to make me happy.
After much contemplation, I’ve realized that a new dress makes me feel happy because a new dress always makes me feel beautiful. As much as i look forward to and enjoy the art of creating an outfit from scratch, sometimes it’s refreshing to just have a go-to dress.
A dress is an outfit in itself. And it’ll always be there, sitting in your closet waiting for you to pair it with a sweet pair of earrings or a funky necklace medley. It looks forward to the days when you don’t have the time or the energy to construct some new pants and top combo. A dress doesn’t care if you’re about to go gorge yourself at your favorite restaurant and haven’t worked out in three days. A dress is ready to spend it’s time on you giving you a nice but loose hug. every time you look in the mirror and see that funky patterned fabric on your body, you’re reminded that you’re beautiful.
I’d like to personally thank this dress for becoming one of my new friends. I’m glad we’ve already got to experience the first day of my spring term class together and piddle around by my grandma’s pond. I’m so excited for us to eat a salt bagel in New York City together in June and go for many strolls in Pennsylvania suburbia in July. I’d also like to thank this dress on behalf of this long shawl thing i bought two years ago when i was convinced that if Legolas from Lord of the Rings had a girlfriend then she’d be really into a long shawl, which has been pretty tired of sitting in my closet waiting for the right dress to complement, I’m sure.
